Chinese Language Center

The Chinese Language Center, an affiliate of Fu Jen Catholic University, was set up in 1964 under Paul Cardinal Yu Pin's order. In 1969, the Ministry of Education granted permission to establish the Center officially. The Center, formerly subordinate to the Society of the Divine Word, is affiliated to the College of Foreign Languages since 2002. There are about 800 foreign students and exchange students enrolled each term.





The Center also offers summer programs in Chinese Language and Culture as well as training program for Chinese teachers. Currently the Center also serves as a test location for the Test of Proficiency¡XHuayu (TOP), and publishes materials related to Mandarin learning and tests.

Curriculum

1.Course Types: There are five types of courses, including:
(1) General Language Courses: daily conversation, reading, and writing.
(2) Speech Lab: A required course for beginners.
(3) Special Courses: Philosophy, Literature, Business, the Scriptures reading, Taiwanese, etc.
(4) Cultural Courses: Calligraphy, Chinese painting, Chinese knotting, Folk Culture and Festivals, etc.
(5) Extended Courses: Fieldtrips related to Chinese language instruction and Chinese Culture.

2. Term Length: Each term lasts 3 months. Intensive summer courses are offered from July to August.

3. There are three levels of class available at the Chinese Language Center: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. Students may choose from one-to-one classes or small-group classes. Except for the cultural courses and the speech lab, each group class has no more than 7 students. Scholarships Scholarships are available in accordance with the Ministry of Education's (MOE) "Operational Guidelines for Foreign Student Scholarship" and "Guidelines for Providing Financial Assistance To Promote the International Exchange Programs of Domestic Post-Secondary Institutions."The number and amount of scholarship awards are determined by MOE.
