School of Law

School of Law

Introduction

After the re-establishment of the University in Hsinchuang in 1963, the Department of Law was set up under the former College of Law, along with other departments of social sciences. In 2003, the Department of Law and the Department of Financial and Economic Law combined to form the School of Law. Prof. Peter Yiu-Lung Chen serves as the first dean. The School of Law comprises two departments, two master's programs, one In-Service Master's Program, and one doctoral program. There are approximately 1000 students. The Legal Service Center and the John Paul II Peace Institute are affiliated to the College.

Curriculum and Faculty

Professional Legal Education To strengthen the development of professional law training, our programs aim to ground the students solidly in both the doctrine of the law and the skills required for practice. Besides the In-Service Master's Program, the Law School plans to implement a Postgraduate Law Program; the In-Service Law Program (including extension education and corporate cooperation). Thematic research centers such as the Cross-Strait Legal System Research Center, the Technological Law Research Center, and professional law programs specified for different disciplines are being planned to meet the demands of this changing legal environment. The law training offered here is not limited to the coursework; it is strengthened by practice in real life, so that we can enrich the students' entire experience as a future lawyer.

Holistic Education Development

Rich and diverse courses are designed to provide a firm intellectual foundation of legal knowledge and to cultivate the analytical and critical skills of the students. In addition, the School emphasizes holistic education courses and a mentor system to enforce interaction between the faculty members and students. We hope to prepare our students for a future career in law.
