Introduction

After Fu Jen re-opened in Taiwan, the Department of Industry and Business Management was established in 1963. The Department was renamed to Department of Business Administration the following year and was placed under the College of Law. In 1969, the College of Commerce was established, and was renamed the College of Management with the permission from the Ministry of Education in 1982. Since then, the college has focused on having more graduate programs. Currently, the College has five undergraduate programs, five master's programs, one Ph.D. program, and seven EMBA programs.

Mission

Based on the whole person educational philosophy of Fu Jen Catholic University, the College of Management intends to educate our students to become intelligent and ethical managers that modern society and businesses need.

To make these intelligent and ethical managers, the College emphasizes learning-by-doing, and dedicates itself to conducting academic research, teaching with diversified pedagogical methods, and serving humanity.

The four core goals of the College are: to develop humanistic values, to realize the ideal of resource integration, to foster innovative knowledge, and to cultivate an international view for our students. Through the concerted efforts of its faculty, staff, and students, the College aims to establish a sound learning environment and become a role model of higher education in management.

Faculty

Currently, there are 76 full-time faculty members. Among them, 18 are full professors, 40 associate professors, 9 assistant professors, and 9 lecturers. About 80 percent of the faculty members have doctoral degrees. In addition, because classes in management require business professionals to assist in lecturing, there are also 90 adjunct faculty members in the College.

Curriculum

The curriculum of the College features:

pointer Diversified and flexible courses: In addition to the basic required courses, the College offers interdisciplinary programs in line with the changing environment. The interdisciplinary programs are dialectic in design so that they can meet the demands of the job market. They offer students training in courses other than their majors and cultivate their ability to integrate interdisciplinary knowledge.

pointerCourses that stress both theory and application: Seminars and lectures by top-caliber speakers from the industry, government, academia, and research circles, such as the Lectures in International Trade and Economics and the Lectures in Industrial Practices, are held to help students understand business practices and state-of-the-art research. These seminars and lectures likewise serve to bridge gaps between theory and practice.

pointerInternational academic exchanges and cooperation:
The College engages in academic exchanges in management-related fields with more than one hundred sister colleges and universities in North America, Europe, and Asia. During school semesters or summer vacations, students are encouraged to participate in exchange programs.

Facilities

pointer In addition to the Social Sciences Library, the Computing Center, the Foreign Language Laboratories, and an International Conference Hall, the College publishes one journal and maintains 5 research centers and 2 service centers.

pointer The Fu Jen Management Review: This journal is for faculty members and experts from Fu Jen and other universities, to publish their papers on management. The Review, published every six months, accepts article submissions year-round and all submissions received are reviewed immediately.

pointer The Center for Commerce Automation: This is the College's business training unit which includes a virtual bookstore that offers students training through simulated business transactions.

pointer The Center for Market Research: In addition to carrying out commissioned market research projects, the Center also offers courses on computer applications. Experts and scholars are invited to speak in seminars on statistical analysis, statistical software packages, and database construction.

pointer The Center for Organizational Innovation and Research: The Center carries out in-depth studies and analyzes key factors that affect organizational innovation so as to improve business performance. The Center accepts commissions from the business sector to offer consulting services and carry out research on organizational innovation. The Center offers a forum for discussion between companies and experts and provides consultations, guidance, and experience-sharing services in specialized fields.

pointer The Research and Development Center for Business Intelligence and Knowledge Management: The Center researches and develops new technologies and accepts commissions from the Government and the business sector to offer consultation and carry out research projects on business intelligence and management issues. Through symposiums and assistance from experts, the Center helps introduce advanced concepts into the local industry and academic sectors, assists in technology transfer, and provides technical development consulting.

pointer The Center for Statistical Consultation: The Center has a team of consultants that provides statistical consulting services. In addition to accepting outside commissions, the Center carries out independent surveys, and trains students to take part in case studies by doing tasks such as sampling design, questionnaire design, surveys, survey control, questionnaire decoding, data entry, and data analysis.

pointer The Center for Electronic Commerce Research and Development: The Center has a cooperative vocational education system and offers IT management technology and consulting services to businesses. The Center recommends students for on-the-job training. The Center invites experts to teach in the school, and provides opportunities for cooperation between business and schools through technical consulting services to businesses.

pointer The Center of Innovation and Incubation: By integrating University resources, the Center provides task-oriented support to start-up companies and small to medium-sized enterprises. The Center provides innovative individuals and companies an environment for incubation and technical support. Both students and faculty work with the companies to gain real world experience and practical skills.

Academic Activities and Researchs

The College executes projects such as "A Program of Enhancing General-knowledge Courses at FJU" and the "Program for Enhancing Universities' International Competitiveness" sponsored by the Ministry of Education, and the "Program for Enhancing the Research and Development Productivity of Private Universities" sponsored by the National Science Council.

The results of these projects include the Management Program in English, the accreditation by AACSB International, and the Joint Degree Program in EMBA. In addition, the College regularly organizes conferences and symposia on Business Administration, Management, International Trade and Finance, Information Science, and Information Management.

Career Opportunities

After graduation, students may choose to pursue further study in Business Administration, International Trade, Finance, Accounting, Applied Statistics, Information Management and other relevant fields in Taiwan as well as abroad.

Graduates may find positions in private businesses, governments, and nonprofit organizations. Employment opportunities include accounting, financial securities, audit, tax, administration, management, marketing, sales, statistics, market research, information management, etc.
