Introduction

The School of Night Division was established in 1969 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It is designed as an educational option for students who want to pursue a degree in higher education while at the same time keeping their jobs. Curriculum

The School of Night Division remains loyal to its founding spirit and continues to develop its original goals of holistic education. The School is dedicated to cultivate its students with knowledge and the ability and expertise necessary in their careers. We expect our students to be equipped with humanistic thoughts, interpersonal communication skills, critical thinking and analytical ability. The School has fifteen departments, offering courses with a balance between theoretical research and practical training to conform to the needs of students in employment. All courses are consistent with their counterparts in the regular academic program.

Facilities

The Night Division Building houses classrooms and important facilities, including multimedia and distance-learning classrooms, audio-visual languages laboratories, computer laboratories, an activity center, conference rooms, and an exhibition hall. We strive to provide our faculty and students better research and learning environment.

Academic Activities and Research

pointer Academic Conferences:

The Holistic Education Center of the School held the conference on "Society, Humanity, and Holistic Education" to facilitate the discussion and exchange of holistic approaches in education among schools and to develop new teaching strategies in this field.

pointer Academic Exchange:

The faculty members in the Departments of Chinese, History, and Philosophy are engaged in vigorous scholarly exchange with mainland universities. During summer and winter vacations, they often attend conferences and are invited as guest speakers in universities across the strait. The School also invites mainland scholars to visit and have seminars to exchange ideas and practices in adult education and life-long learning.

Educational Goals and Mission

The primary purpose of the Night Division is to provide those who do not earn a bachelor degree with life-time learning opportunities and to assist students to resume their education after a break. In 2003, a "Postgraduate Law Program" was established to meet the demand for legal education and degrees of people in employment. Among the plans for the future of the School are the implementation of interdisciplinary programs in business administration and business English, the development of distance learning and synchronous/asynchronous courses, and credit programs for the people in the Taipei area who are interested in in-service training courses.

Career Opportunities

Male students in the School of Night Division can defer the obligatory military service while retaining the status as a student. Students may apply the Preservice Program for Teachers and become secondary or elementary school teachers. Upon graduation, students will be awarded a Bachelor degree which may help students pursue higher positions in their work and improve their career opportunities.
