Educational Goals and Mission
The College is committed to providing an educational experience
which features:
a balanced curriculum on professional training and liberal art education
To cultivate professionals who can lead a rewarding career with professional
achievement, the college strives to create a balanced curriculum on professional
training and liberal art education. With the former, we prepare students
with knowledge in their chosen fields, so that they can dive into a career
related to their majors with competitiveness; with the latter, we hope to
develop students' critical, analytical and communicational skills, as well
as ability in independent learning so that they can adapt to the ever-changing
environment.
special attention to service-learning and holistic education
To formulate men and women with well-rounded character and professional
ethics, the college pays special attention to service-learning and holistic
education. By including service-learning, community work, and professional
ethics into the curriculum, students are allowed first-hand experiences
of serving the marginalized groups in the society. After graduation, we
hope that they can work for the empowerment of the marginalized and the
betterment of the society with Christian spirit of love and service.
Development and objective of the college include
Holistic Education
Aside from professional knowledge and skills, each department in the college
prepares students to acquire critical and analytical skills by a balanced
proportion of courses in general and professional disciplines, a well-established
mentor system, as well as various academic and communal activities.
Interdisciplinary Program
To encourage students to develop a second professional skill, the College
offers an interdisciplinary program in Non-Government Organization Management,
which integrates educational resources from all four departments in the
College as well as other colleges in the university. The program provides
an opportunity for students to learn more about the management and operation
of NGOs, such as hospitals, social work groups, religious organizations,
and cultural foundations, so that they can enter the job market with ready
knowledge and additional management skills.
International Environment
To improve students' English ability and broaden their international vision,
the college offers courses conducted in English, establishes academic exchange
programs with sister schools, and co-hosts international conferences with
their counterparts in various institutions and universities.
Research and Service-Oriented Centers
The Socio-Cultural Research Center
Established in August 1993, the Socio-Cultural Research Center aims to promote academic researches
related to political, economic, societal and cultural developments in Taiwan, Mainland China, Macau
and Hong Kong. It closely collaborates with all four departments in the college, and is committed
to advancing social justice with a special emphasis on Christian value. Students are encouraged to
provide volunteer service related to their majors by working together with their professors and
specialists in the college.
Academic Activities and Research
The college encourages academic researches. Each year, professors from all four departments,
graduate programs and affiliated research institutes conduct researches commissioned by the
National Science Council, government and private sectors, as well as NGO foundations. Many of them
are presented in international and national conference or published in renowned journals, and are
