Students Life
Accommodation
Because Fu Jen's students have always been drawn from a wide area, the University has regarded the provision of proper accommodation for its students as an important objective.
There are eleven student dormitories: 6 for women, 5 for men. Students who wish to live on campus must first make an application, and if they meet regulations, they can live in one of the campus dormitories. There are over 4064 men and women students living in the eleven dormitories now. In addition to a military training instructor assigned to each dormitory to serve student needs, a dormitory superintendent and a full-time administrator are responsible for administrative affairs. The dormitories also feature a self-governing committee elected by the students themselves.
Under the reasonable requirements and regulations, the dormitories provide a stable, quiet and humane atmosphere in which students may live and study.
Cafeteria Facilities
The College of Liberal Arts, the College of Science and Engineering, the College of Law, and the College of Management together have five cafeterias. Those administered by the College of Science and Engineering, specifically the Departments of Applied Life Science and Nutrition and Food Sciences are used for student practice. The College of Liberal Arts manages its own cafeteria, whereas the other two are managed by businessmen under contract.
The Life Assistance Section is responsible for the coordination, and supervision of sanitation and food prices, as well as general improvements. In the field of sanitary inspection, the Department of Nutrition and Food Science takes the responsibility for germ laboratory examination and for general inspection once a semester. For the benefit of faculty and student health, sanitation standards for the cafeterias are closely followed.
Library Services
A library plays a vital role in any place of learning. At Fu Jen, the library system includes three libraries : the Library of Liberal Arts, the Library of Social Science, and the Library of Natural Sciences and Foreign Languages. The Liberal Arts Library also functions as the Main library, as its collections would often times provide inter- disciplinary information for all faculties of the University.
The book stock of these three libraries sums up a total of 834911volumes. The subscriptions of professional and technical periodicals and journals total 3702. There are 39126 kinds of audio-visual source, 81kinds of Database and 9485 pieces of micro-form in these three libraries.
The libraries have been organized to fulfill the educational needs of the students and to support the University in meeting its objectives. The entire collection of the Library is comprehensively catalogued on computer. In addition, our libraries also provide a gateway, via the latest computer technology, to numerous national and international information sources.
Health Services
The main work of the university Health Center is to prevent disease and to
promote the health of faculty staff members and students.
Therefore all staff members and students must have a health certificate before
joining our university community. If we find any infection after physical
checkup, the person will be carefully isolated from others specially if he/she
is living the dormitories.
The Health center will help other university offices to promote and to keep
the university surroundings clean and healthy.
The Health center also sees to it that both vaccination and immunity injections
are given each year. The university maintains a clinic with medical doctors
and registered nurses in attendance. The Health Center also offers first
aid training and health education each year to promote skill and health
knowledge.
Religious Guidance Center
The Fu Jen Religious Guidance Center aims to oversee the University Pastoral Program, and facilitates cooperation between different college-based religious counseling offices and religious organizations in order to realize the mission of the University as a catholic Institution of learning. In addition, the Center also helps foster sense of awareness among students and professors of the spirit of Catholic Education as influenced by anthropology and values. In a multi-credal society as in Taiwan, the Center also serves as a means for dialogue with the contemporary world and other faiths.
Headed by the chaplain, the Center provides diverse sacramental services such as baptisms, confirmations, weddings, yearly retreats and recollections during special liturgical seasons both for the Catholic students and members of the academic community.
Counseling and Consultation Services Center
In order to promote the holistic development of the students, staff and faculty, the University has provided comprehensive counseling and consultation services dedicated to the total development and needs of the students, staff and faculty in their personal, social, psychological and spiritual development. It aims to facilitate better understanding of the self and greater appreciation of the goodness within each individual. In addition, the Center enables the faculty and students to handle crises and to better adjust themselves to the changing world in the light of social and moral values. On the whole, it assists both the faculty and students in their efforts to become secure, integrated, self- directed and self-sufficient individuals.
