Employers Top Choices: NTU and FJCU meets on top

“2016 Employers Top Choices for Universities”, a survey conducted by 1111 Job Bank, shows that National Taiwan University (NTU) surpassed National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), and along with Fu Jen Catholic University (FJCU), matched in the lead. The survey was an analysis of the nation’s top choices for public and private universities, according to employers.

What are the top universities for employability? According to a survey conducted by 1111 Job Bank, NTU, which resumed the spotlight once again, is the top pick for the public sector, overthrowing fellow elites NCKU, National Cheng Chi University (NCCU), National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), and National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in the process.

In the private sector, the winner and first runner up go to FJCU and Tamkang University (TKU), a swap in places compared to last year’s, and the second runner up goes to Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU).

In order to evaluate the probability of acceptance of the national’s graduates, 1111 Job Bank piloted the survey “2016 Employers Top Choices for Universities”, with the results announced today. Vice President of 1111 Job Bank, Mr. Da-Hua, Li, mentioned, comparing to last year’s analysis, the fluctuation to the scope of the ranking wasn’t massive. But what’s worth mentioning is that science and technology studies, which used to be a field favored, has been over taken by the advancing comprehensive studies and linguistics.

According to the survey, the grounds of being employers’ preferences were the graduates’ working attitudes (73.5%), followed by problem-solving abilities (37%), good communication skills (35.4%), being a fast learner (29.9%), and possessing adequate knowledge and skills in the area of expertise (28.7%).

Other than that, the survey also shows that the standard during the process of job interviews was weighed upon candidates’ proactivity, followed by responsibility and self-management, and then stress and emotional management. This is a contrast with the traditional and dated cogitation of possessing professional knowledge and skills and practical application, which ended up in the ranking of 9th and 10th in the survey. The importance of having a prominent and positive working attitude has outdone the obsolete performance based evaluation in the area of expertise.

Mr. Li said, considering the fact that acquiring a bachelor degree is the basic threshold of employment, and having an equally strong professional based knowledge, “soft skills” has become an essential, and ultimately, the key to making the hiring decision. Nonetheless, stress management and responsibility are the missing traits in today’s employment, causing a huge gap in this essentiality. Once the graduates understand and develop these two traits, the competition would be lopsided, with these people being highlighted from the rest of the crowd. He suggested the graduates develop the skills of being proactive to distort the stereotypical idea of low stress management and compatibility.

The “2016 Employers Top Choices for Universities”, conducted by 1111 Job Bank, is a sampling survey focusing on managers, or others who have the ability to choose and utilize talents. The survey was conducted between Nov. 2nd-30th, 2015, with a total of 3,396 valid questionnaires. (CNA News)
