[Iron Horse Taiwan Tour Coverage] Fu Jen United, Cycling with Power

Fu Jen Catholic University will start its 13th Iron Horse Taiwan Tour on July 31. This year’s theme is “Fu Jen United, Cycling with Power,” which is an extension of the three core values of a healthy, loving, and positive Fu Jen Catholic University, and is a great milestone, marking the 12th year of the exhilarating Iron Horse Taiwan Tour. The 11-day trip around Taiwan starts from Fu Jen Catholic University and passes places such as the Old Hukou Catholic Church Museum,Johnson Health Tech,Eluanbi Lighthouse, the Shouka pass, and Waimu Mountain. Along the way, the participants meet with outstanding alumni from different alumni associations, entrepreneurs, and Catholic churches to thank them for their support to Fu Jen Catholic University.
Wang Chien-chun, Vice Dean of the Department of Physical Education, stated that “In preparation for the 100th anniversary of the founding of Fu Jen Catholic University in 2025, the cycling tour has been made more difficult; not only has it been extended to 11 days, but participants will also climb Dadu Mountain and traverse the roads to different lighthouses.” Additionally, this  year’s team is the largest ever.

Out of the participants, the oldest is the 72-year old Chen Min-hsien, a great cycling aficionado, who is making his 20th cycling trip around Taiwan, who said that “I consider this trip my rite of passage. I have been promoting cycling for a long time because it is environmentally friendly. I hope that through my influence, I can promote cycling, and I have received much support while cycling around Taiwan.

Tseng I-chan from Lin-kou High School, who brought his two younger brothers, is participating in the FJCU Iron Horse Tour for the third time: “I got addicted immediately after my first time, and I am looking forward to the next one each year.” Chen I-hsiu, a student in the School of Continuing Education, said that “I hope I can use this experience as a basis for my own bicycle trip around Taiwan in the future.” Lu Ke-yen, a third year student in the FJCU Fashion Marketing faculty, also brought his brother along. When asked about the tour, he said that “when cycling around Taiwan on a bicycle, I feel like I can see a lot of different sights from a lot closer, so I am looking forward to it.”
Each participant is full of anticipation and excitement and has practiced for their trip around Taiwan, which starts in two days. In spite of their different ages, they all have the same goal in mind, hoping that everyone can complete their trip to great satisfaction, and that after working hard and pushing forward, they can all become a better version of themselves.
